Dear Inspiration

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what gives me inspiration.

Yeah, I know, sounds lame. As a writer, I know I shouldn’t WAIT for inspiration, that Muses are for old Greek playwrights, and you can still be a great writer, even when you’re not in the mood.

Still, I’ll take inspiration when I can get it. And there are a lot of places I find it.

From books I read, sometimes a particular character, the writing, the setting, the premise, or a combination thereof. The lady that comes into Starbucks dancing to the music on her iPhone, her large poofy hair swaying a beat behind. In my apartment complex, this older guy and his extremely large, well behaved dog that doesn’t need a leash and is super friendly. With the SQUIRRELS.

I can find inspiration in a cluster of cacti. In the way the windows fog in the morning because of the humidity. An empty patio with a lone chair knocked on it’s side.

So, I’ve decided to start a series of Dear Inspirations. A meme, of sorts. I’ll write letters to anyone and anything that inspires me, whatever they may be. I’ll post one later today. (GASP! Does this mean Brittany will post reqularly now?! We’ll see )
